Chartered Surveyors
Chartered surveyors are highly experienced and qualified professionals who offer impartial, specialist advice on property issues.
Their services are diverse. Beyond valuing homes or looking for structural defects, they provide more expertise in property, construction and related environmental issues than anyone else in the field.
RICS membership
Only Chartered Surveyors are entitled to use the letters MRICS or FRICS (Professional Member or Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) after their names and only Technical surveyors are entitled to use the letters TechRICS (Technical member of the RICS).
RICS members must update their knowledge and competence throughout their working life, through RICS' Continuous Professional Development regulations, so you can be confident the advice you receive will be of the highest and most professional standard. RICS members must adhere to Rules of Conduct, and consumers are protected by a formal complaints handling procedure.
The RICS regulates its members in the public interest and they are bound by strict rules of conduct on matters such as client confidentiality and conflict of interest. Chartered Surveyors and Technical Surveyors advising clients must hold professional indemnity insurance and follow regulations governing the proper handling of clients’ money. They must also have formal complaints handling procedures which conform to a minimum standard laid down by the RICS.
